Street Art in London
Many people might have probably stopped noticing the many graffitis that cover many
areas in many cities around the world. It is not that strange, as many of them are just badly drawn figures or words that do not make much sense. Not every drawing deserves to be removed, though. Street art is more appreciated these days.
I reckon artists like Banksy or Keith Haring have had a lot to do. For many years, graffitis have been perceived as the kind of thing that unruly teens do. There are really good pieces of art out there in the streets of London, though.
I took a few pics in the Brick Brick Lane area a few days ago. I will be doing some street art walks and reporting on them soon. Hope you enjoy my pics!
All of them are remarkably different in theme, etc. Some examples:
Animals seem to be a recurrent topic. Some of them are quite complex and we can feel the many hours of work that the artists must have spent doing them. The last one can be found in Camden Town.
Portraits is another theme. It is a shame how some of them have been spoiled.
Even the Queen is being portrayed! This one is from the Camden Town area.
Two more pictures from Brick Lane. I find that the technique used in the one on the left can be seen in many gallery portraits lately, similar to Georges Seurat‘s technique to a certain extent.
Street signs – so funny!
As Wanderlust, another blogger I follow, says you always have to look up when walking in London
Thanks for reaching the end of my post. Did you like it? Hope you visit soon!
Quite impressive
Wow, thanks! Which is your favourite one?
Some of these are amazing! It makes you wonder how they look at a brick wall and “see” what they are about to create. Isn’t it funny that my new post was about looking up when you walk as well. 🙂
Really? Let’s have a look at it. 🙂
Thanks for the mention! This just motivates me to get back on an Alternative London Tour asap. Nice to see that some of the same work is still there, like Roa’s crane as it is pretty amazing.
That´s pretty good to read, that my post motivated you! 🙂 Yes, I believe there are specific street art tours, and am looking forward to doing one! Shame some of the works are so spoiled.
It annoys me so much when I see art that has been written on with tags. People here don’t respect their surroundings or other’s work. I guess I could just walk around myself but I want to do the tour so I get the names of the artists.
Good idea. They do not always sign their works.
Great post! 🙂
Thank you!
Wonderful post! Just loved the pictures and reading about it all. Where I live, San Francisco California, the street art is amazing. Especially in the area called The Mission.
I’d love to see the city, with its cultural vibe. It must be awesome! Thanks for stopping by!
You are welcome, and yes it is quite a vibrant vibe here…. but nothing compared to London this summer I am sure.
We are spoilt for choice! Off with my camera to see the latest street art project. Watch this space! Nice topic on your blog, by the way. I am unable to distinguish perfumes.
Thanks! I used to be that way about perfumes too. I will keep an eye on your blog! Have fun out there in the City.
Graffitti make London even more special… Such a cool place to be 😉 Rest assured I’ll keep visiting
Sounds good! Give us a shout when you do. Thanks for dropping by.
I love street art and have taken photos of Roa’s Crane and Squirrel too. They are fabulous. I take regular walks through the Leake Street tunnel too. Sometimes the work is okay, sometimes it is incredible!
Thanks for the tip! Second part of my trip coming very soon. 🙂
