How I Cope with Winter in London
Winter is here! Oh, no sorry. It´s autumn. But, it feels as if winter was already here. I don’t recall being so cold in London in the past years. It actually started a bit earlier than expected, which I think it helped to create this feeling. To further help matters, the clock went backwards last Saturday. This means that we all are going to enjoy cosy, warm movie nights in for a few months in a row. Just looking on the bright side!
While I was doing a bit of planning ahead , I thought I’d compile here a few tips on how to cope with winter in London. They go in no particular order. Have you got any good tips? What has/ hasn´t worked out for you?
- Woollies → Go to charity shops.
At this time of the year, charity shops are in serious need for warm clothes. Companies give them out everything that cannot be sold, so a typical Sunday stroll might help you get a lovely jumper from your favourite brand – and totally new! - Warm cocoa → Get hot milk, cocoa powder, a blanket and sit in the sofa.
- Movie marathon → Call a couple of friends.
I´ve got a couple in mind. Someone suggested a `cryathon´ sometime ago. What about a Kill Bill or a 80´s marathon? - Winter walks→ It can be so good discovering London in winter. Watch the short video below (no endorsement here). No share or id values provided for youtube shortcode.
- Get strong walking boots → Internet shopping.
My boots were a life saver in previous years, when snow was everywhere. Internet shopping can be so gratifying. It saves me from going to one sports shop to another. Careful with your card limit, though! - Good book → Internet shopping again?
My reading list keeps growing. There are so many developments in digital marketing that I hardly have the time for other books. I am trying to finish Cloud Atlas. Have you read it? - Winter festivals, such as Winter Wonderland → You´ll forget about how cold it is.No share or id values provided for youtube shortcode.Or Xfm´s Winter Wonderland → Be ready for this (no endorsement here)No share or id values provided for youtube shortcode.
- Street markets → Check this map
Thanks for reading, and happy winter!
You certainly seem prepared. The Londoners don’t seem to do to well driving in the snow I have noticed. 😉
No, they don’t. LoL. Snow is not as common here as in other countries, though. Just trying to get rid of this stupid cold at the moment. Hope you are well.
One activity I always liked in London during the winter was going pub hopping – especially to lovely old heritage pubs with a crackling open fire on the hearth. The Three Kings was my favourite, but there are plenty of other pubs that stoke up the fires during the colder months. Keep warm!
Oh, a nice open fire is always good. There is this small one in Primrose Hill. I bet is always full. Cheers for your comment.
warm coco is my favorite
Such a nice one. Thanks for your comment!
Some amazing reccommendations there for what to do in the winter in london 🙂 i definitely approve! also things like doing a coffee/hotchocolate crawl… you go round to all of your favourite coffee shops over a week and also make sure that you try out new coffee shops.
another recommendation would be to find an old pub where they have a MASSIVE open fire. that is such a nice feeling especially after a long cold walk. thankyou for the post 🙂
Some brilliant recommendations too. Maybe, you can share some places? Thank you for visiting!
Brilliant advice to cope with the cold weather in London! 😉 My favourite was the movie marathon and the cup of warm cocoa… sounds like heaven
Thank you! What do you normally do to cope with bad weather?
Stay home, wear loads of layers of warm clother, cover up with a blanket, watch a good film and sip some lovely hot chocolate… Or, if I’m in Vienna for the Xmas Markets season, I wear my best coat and drink loads of warm punsch 😉
Nice! I wanna go to Vienna too! 🙂
My friend just taught me how to crochet. I’ve completed one project so far, a cowl which will keep me nice and warm this winter. I’ve always been such a shut in this time of year but I’ve made it a point to still get together with friends and go out to beat the winter blues. I hope to catch a few winter markets if I can.
Crochet, knitting, etc, have become such a hit in recent years. You could actually see twenty-somethings knitting on the tube sometimes. I´m really bad at that. Maybe, you could take pics and show us your projects sometime?
Yes will do, I mean to post a picture of what I made soon.
