Egg Hunting, Anyone?
Are you all enjoying an egg-cellent Easter? My camera and me certainly are! During my student life, everything was about researching, studying and putting together abstracts for presentations during my holidays. After that, I started to enjoy the small aspects of Easter, such as egg hunting!
I enjoy egg-hunting and chocolate eggs a lot. So, I decided to join in The Fabergé Big Egg Hunt in London.
Egg hunting in Easter belongs to the Anglo-Saxon culture. It was popularised in the rest of the world through the usual means, I guess – as a children´s game! However, I didn´t see that many children in the egg hunt exhibition today, nor that many Easter eggs for kids in the supermarket.
The Big Egg Hunt is quite a novel marketing tactic for charities and a great way to raise funds for a number of worthy causes. Egg-cellent, isn´t it? The 200 eggs had been designed by artists, and were dotted all around London. Egg-hunters needed to find and collect them using text messages or a QR code to get the chance to win a real Fabergé egg worth thousands of pounds.
Members of the public can bid in an online auction to own one of these eggs. They are all in an exhibition in Covent Garden Piazza until Monday.
We found some very plain eggs, but some others were truly amazing, like these ones covered in mirrors and little porcelains:
Some others were covered in fabric or were arty in different ways:
Now, eggs are generally not empty, right?
Some were quite funny and arty!
Some luxury was there too:
Finally, I got my own egg!
Great post! 🙂
Thanks! It is good to read. Did you take part in an egg hunt this weekend?
I went to Covent Garden on Friday to photograph the one’s I did not manage to find before.
I wish I could’ve done that Egg hunt! 😉
