Art Works
I went to an amazing art exhibition over the weekend which reminded me how devaluated art is. Have you ever felt startled by a work of art?
It was at the Halcyon Gallery. The artist is a recognised person in the art world who makes beautifully intriguing glass figures, which he then exhibits around the world. If you have been to the V&A museum recently, you might have seen the huge, green and blue lamp
in the Grand Entrance. That is one of his own works of art.
Three things caught my eye:
The colours The intrincate shapes How well they merge
What really amazed me is the effort he must have put in and countless number of tests that he must have used to create those objects. He works with glass, plastic water and ice, exploring the visual relationship between the objects he creates and light. I cannot imagine how many hours he, and other artists, need to take for them to create all those objects which might not even sell well nor are appreciated.
For example, Keith Haring´s art work is more valuable now than when he was alive. The same goes for Bernini and other classic art masters. I also believe that effort is not that valued in other areas of life.
